Naoya Okamoto is a research manager for high-frequency compound semiconductor (CS) electron devices such as GaN and InP-based high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) at Fujitsu Limited. Recently he has been working on thermal management for GaN HEMT power amplifier using GaN and AlN substrates.

Dr. Kevin Roth

Project Manager, High Performance Materials - ADA Technologies, Inc.

Dr. Roth is a Project Manager and Senior Research Engineer in the Thermal Management team at ADA Technologies. Currently, he is the PI of two projects related to ADA’s Cell Isolation Material (CIM). Dr. Roth joined ADA in July 2015 as a Research Engineer after graduating with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Before joining ADA, Dr. Roth’s work focused on developing individual cell flow cytometers by combining custom optical systems with microfluidic devices, during which he published three articles and was awarded one patent. Since joining ADA, he has been involved with a number of Army, Navy, and Air Force SBIR Phase I and II projects as the primary research engineer.

Patrick E. Hopkins is an\ Professor in Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia, with courtesy appointments in the Department of Materials Science
and Engineering and the Department of Physics. Patrick received his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia in 2008. His dissertation research was focused on developed pulsed laser-based diagnostics to measure temperature and energy transfer in solid materials.

Deborah Kapilow

PhD candidate in the Multiscale Thermofluidics Laboratory - Drexel University

Deborah is a PhD candidate in the Multiscale Thermofluidics Laboratory at Drexel University, where she also received her BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Her undergraduate research concentrated on the development of high-performance dry cooling technologies in power plants to prevent water loss. She also wrote a Master’s Thesis on the experimental characterization of the melting and freezing of encapsulated phase-change materials under convective boundary conditions.

John Wilson joined Mentor Graphics Corporation, Mechanical Analysis Division (formerly Flomerics Ltd) that is
now part of Siemens Digital Industries Software in 1999 and has over 19 years of thermal design experience relating to simulation and testing. He has worked on or managed more than 100+ thermal and airflow design consulting projects ranging from component level, PCB, Enclosure and System Level inclusive of a wide range of applications including consumer, communications, industrial and automotive electronics.  John developed a practical and comprehensive knowledge of IC package level thermal test and analysis correlation through his work in the Mentor, Fremont, CA. test facilities.

Over the course of her career, she has  been responsible for product design, reliability and technical innovation for industrial products. Besides leading design solutions that serve CPC customers, she is an active consulting member on ASHRAE and OCP committees.

Joey Scimeca is a Materials Engineer on the polymer composites team at Thermexit. He received a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Oklahoma, where his undergraduate research concentrated on design and fabrication of nanocomposites for ultrasensitive pressure-sensing applications in wearable electronics. His current work is focused on developing high performance non-reactive, non-silicon, no cure system thermal gap pads for high powered and harsh environment applications, utilizing novel materials and manufacturing techniques for two separate product lines.

Professor of Mechanical Engineering - University of Maryland

Michael Ohadi is a Minta Martin Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research focus is on heat/mass transfer and process intensification utilizing innovative designs, materials, and manufacturing techniques. From 2016 to 2020, Ohadi served as Program Director (PD) at the U.S. department of energy, Advanced Research Project Agency-energy (ARPAE) where he led the development of programs in high-temperature heat exchangers and energy conversion systems, and lightweight and ultra-efficient electric motors, drives, and associated thermal management systems for electrification of air transportation.

Senior Thermal Design Engineer - Holo, Inc.

Karthik Kumar Bodla, Ph.D. is a Senior Thermal Design Engineer at Holo, Inc. where he works on designing internal thermal management products and assists customers in optimizing their designs for improved performance. Prior to joining Holo, Karthik was at GE Global Research where he worked on GE’s many electrical devices, such as MRI equipment, CT targets, transformers, inductors and motors/generators, improving their performance through patented thermal solutions. During his time there in 2018, Karthik won GE Global Research’s biennial team award, the Whitney award. Karthik has 9 granted patents with several others pending. Karthik has published over 25 research articles in peer reviewed journals and conferences, including a book chapter.

Bharath Bharadwaj is a graduate (M.S) student in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg.
His professional interests include electronics cooling, thermal management and heat transfer and
product development. Currently, he is working on understanding viability of coal-derived graphene-
based Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) and additively manufactured metal lattice heat sinks for
electronics cooling applications. Prior to Virginia Tech, Bharath obtained his B.S from PES University in
India and briefly worked as a visiting research scholar on surface modifications for enhanced heat
transfer at New Mexico State University, Las Cruces.

Dr. Ryan Lewis

Director of R&D - Kelvin Thermal Technologies

Ryan Lewis is Director of R&D at Kelvin Thermal Technologies. Ryan received his B.A. degree in physics from Whitman College in 2008 and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in 2012 with a focus on micro cryogenic coolers. During a postdoctoral fellowship to make a slim TGPs 3x thinner than the commercial state-of-the-art, he developed the technology that Kelvin Thermal and partners now use in mass production to make thermal solutions for major smartphone vendors. By leveraging knowledge in microfabrication, micro-fluidics design, nano-scale energy transport, materials chemistry, and manufacturing processing, Kelvin Thermal continues to advance the state of the art of vapor chambers and TGPs.
